A challenging piece of experimental circus and great fun
- Turun Sanomat
Juggler Ville Wallo and magician Kalle Hakkarainen bring their third work, Keskusteluja (Discussions), to the festival for its Madrid premiere. This Finnish contemporary circus production is a multimedia experience examining communication and the lack of it in today's information and technology society.
A telephone which does not bring people together but which instead keeps them apart. Hundreds of messages, millions of words and endless sequences of symbols but no conversation.
Using spectacular visual effects (including moveable projection surfaces), juggling (including one act with several balls and a phone) and magic, Keskusteluja plunges us into a surreal, poetic world. Kimmo Pohjonen and Samuli Kosminen, from the group, Kluster, have created the music specially for this multi-faceted production which entertains while also making its audience think.
With a minimal, functional stage setting Walo (artistic director of the New Juggling Festival and the Cirko Festival of New Circus in Helsinki) and Hakkarainen (whose inventions have been published in leading publications such as Magic Magazine) have come up with a show which positions itself somewhere between circus, dance, object theatre and video art.
