LOS VIENTOS QUE SUSURRAN EN EL TEATRO Y EN LA DANZA (WINDS WHISPERING THROUGH THEATRE AND DANCE). Thursday, October 23. 11am to 12.30pm.
Director: Eugenio Barba.
Europe's stage community suffers because of the division between theatre and dance, making it seem as if they were almost two completely different universes. On the contrary, they form a single entity which expresses itself through different genres but which come together through the fact that the mind and body of the actor/dancer is present on the stage.
Instead of "theatre" and "dance" one can, in fact, talk of "profound dance" and "self-evident dance". "Profound dance" consists typically of dance or stage styles which do not appear to be dance; "self-evident" dance often sets itself apart from all types of imitative or narrative technique by presenting itself as complete physical dynamism.
However, all performance has its mental and physical roots in dance, in the dance of energy and thought.
TEXTO. ACCIÓN. RELACIONES (TEXT. ACTION. RELATIONS). Friday, October 24. 11am to 12.30pm.
Presentation by Tage Larsen and Julia Varley.
Using extracts from Shakespeare's Othello, Tage Larsen and Julia Varley present a dialogue between Othello and Iago, employing a technique based on the creation and development of physical and vocal actions.
The text is recited in English and the explanations are given in Spanish.
The spark for the project came from Tage's enthusiasm for the words of Shakespeare and the need to find ways to connect the range of physical techniques used by Odin Teatret with a written text.
The two actors, through a process of improvisation and composition, create a dynamic physical score which forms the base on which the text is incorporated and on which the encounter between the two actors is developed.
