When Amagatsu makes his gradual, liquidly imperceptible exit, you feel that you might be hallucinating.

Each work by Sankai Juku is an attempt to ponder the immeasurable passing of time. In Hbiki (Resonance from Far Away), first of all there is tranquility. Then drops of water drum a slow rhythm, as in the music of composer Yoichiro Yoshikawa and jazz pianist Takashi Kako. In Amagatsu’s heavenly landscape, the dancers - striking shaven-headed figures covered in white make-up - focus and restrain their movements almost without touching, retaining a luminous and poetic beauty. The result is a powerful, lyrical-sensory experience which envelops with minimalist, perfect precision.
