A calm, slightly stupid smile fixes itself on our lips. It reflects a delicious and mysterious satisfaction, sufficiently strange to demonstrate the triumph of this incongruous production.
- Le Monde
For this production, Toméo Vergès proposes that we act like idiots instead of being sensible. Taking into consideration his particular style and sense of humour, Idiotas acts like a long, cold shower. The idiocy in question takes us to the limits of human conduct, to the very edge where behaviour is no longer rational. The audience, for example, enjoys the man falling over, making a mistake or getting lost; the mockery muddies the finer points of the production: for those performing as well as for those watching. Is everybody an idiot?
"Have a good look at me! I'm an idiot, I'm a practical joker, I'm a hoaxer. Have a good look at me! I'm ugly, my face has no expression, I'm small. I'm like all of you!”
Tristan Tzara
