Five large young men and a violinist stare out from the stage. There is a sense of excitement and anticipation, an invitation to share in their form of expression, way of being, friendship and history. Every detail and gesture is important - a little can mean a lot. Their space is fragile, they draw lines and personal paths but without ever going too far from home. “The memory of what was and the pleasure of what is,” is how they explain it. And it is what unites these five dancers who first came together in a folklore dance festival in their native Slovakia at the age of just five. After 15 years of dancing, seven of them living together, Martin Kilvady, Peter Jasko, Anton Lachky, Milan Herich and Milan Tomásik arrive from their present base in Belgium to present Opening Night. Their first collective production, it is packed with innovation and tradition, poetry, autonomy and rapport which looks both inwards and outwards in a myriad of movement.
