As pure a dancing talent as we have in these times, with… a Nijinsky-like purity, as a choreographer, he’s… full of ideas and a seemingly limitless zeal to explore them.

It was in May 2007, when the young Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui first visited the Shaolin Temple in China, home to Buddhist monks from 495 BC. The trip turned into a complete sensory experience, different from anything he had known before. Inspired by the legendary figure of Bruce Lee and by the skill, power and spirituality of the temple, Cherkaoui, together with sculptor Antony Gormleyand composer Szymon Brzóska created a mystic choreography which goes beyond the body, tradition and the contemporary world.
Onstage, wooden boxes as tall as men. Boxes which are also beds, coffins, walls and temples. Boxes which are full or empty. Boxes which hide infinite possibilities. And the power of meditation, emotional energy, martial arts and Buddhism.
