And if the moon, like a giant onstage mirror, reflects the theatre of Eugenio Barba?
- La Gaceta di Lecce
High above, the moon watches. It observes, moving back and forth over cities in flames, over the metropolises of Europe and Asia, from Hiroshima to Halle and from imperial China to Alabama.
Its voice can both mock and surprise. Sometimes indifferent, occasionally painful. Cold or glowing, it knows nothing of melancholy nor can it console. From this emotional landscape grew a theatrical and musical production based on the writings of Bertolt Brecht, Jens Bjørneboe and Ezra Pound and brought to the stage by the Odin Teatret. Founded for the purpose of further education and theatre research by director and academic, Eugenio Barba, the self-governing institution is known internationally for its pioneering development of cultural exchange as well as its strong work in the field of stage arts. Las grandes ciudades bajo la luna premiered in Bielefeld, Germany in September 2003.
