Lipsynch... is something like a Rubik's Cube multiplying its faces and consequently showing the way for new solution prospects...
- Digimag
The human voice initially emerges from a remarkable collection of internal organs but only reaches its ultimate expression once it is outside the body. Lipsynch explores this idea by moving away from visual stimuli and plunging itself into concepts of voice, talk and language via, amongst other things, synthesisers, opera singing and babies crying. In its style, humour and variety of sounds, it is reminiscent of the more ambitious projects of the director, Robert Altman, in which individual stories are interweaved with the universal. An inventory of the world, with its absences and black holes, seen through the eyes of characters brought together by chance and probability. The Canadian director, Robert Lepage - creator of The Dragons´ Trilogy, Geometry of Miracles and The Andersen Project - is acclaimed by the critics as an alchemist of the stage who is able to explode the traditional foundations of theatre with his multimedia imagery. On this occasion, he presents a theatrical experiment examining the phenomenon of human communication.
